Obtain two images of both hips in 90° flexion and neutral position (lateral decubitus) and make following measurements on your PACS workstation:

Radiographic Findings


Infant or child ( Ultrasound should preferentially be used in infant to avoid radiation )

 

 

  • Femoral epiphysis not located within lower inner quadrant formed by Hilgenreiner and Perkins lines

Hilgenreiner line: Horizontal through triradiate cartilage

Perkins line: Perpendicular to Hilgenreiner, at lateral edge acetabulum

  • Disruption of Shenton line (continuous curve around obturator foramen to medial femoral metaphysis)

  • Acetabular roof angle > 30° indicates DDH

  • Delayed ossification of femoral head

  • May develop osteonecrosis in childhood
